Tell us a little about yourself…
I’m Lynn, and I live in Plano, and I’m a working mom. My kids are almost grown. I’m an empty nester, a new empty nester, and excited about that.
What made you look for help?
My husband put in a gym in our house, and when he put that in, we had all this equipment, and I didn’t know how to use it. I wasn’t raised with that kind of equipment, and I’ve been to gyms before, but I guess I probably never really knew what I was doing, so we asked the people that we bought the equipment from who we could use, and I really was looking for a female trainer to come to my house.
Why exactly did you choose us?
Well, I think I had a different approach. You know, first of all, I knew I’d always get the same trainer. That was important. Not everybody does that. I really needed to work with the same person. I’ve had a couple of neck surgeries and very vulnerable to injury and I have to be careful. So I wanted to make sure I had someone that I could explain that to, that understood that, that was used to working with clients that maybe had other orthopedic issues and this wasn’t their first time. And so I wanted somebody that I was going to have consistency with. I’m a busy person. I do a lot of different things. I do have a little part-time consulting business. I travel. I like to cook. I like to entertain. I like to be able to be up and moving. And I’m not very good at sitting still. So I want my stamina to be there. I want to be able to do things for a long time.
How has the experience been?
It’s different all the time, which I like. Yeah, sometimes it’s lower body, sometimes it’s upper body, sometimes it’s core, and sometimes it’s that roller. I’m not a big fan of the foam roller, but I’m sure it’s good for me. We listen to music. We use all kinds of different equipment. So mostly light weights for me because of my neck. More repetitions, light weights, and that works for me.
What benefits have you noticed?
The consistency of my workouts has changed because I have a schedule. And so that’s a good first step. And secondly, I think my stamina has improved. I know my stamina has improved. and my grip in my left hand has significantly improved. I really lost a lot of nerve innervation with my neck surgeries, and so trying to get my left arm to work as well as my right arm has been a goal, and certainly I think that’s improved quite a lot.
What was unique about the training?
A trainer that understands people have injuries, and one of those included a really bad fractured ankle down the stairs for me. And Susan came every week, even when I didn’t feel like I could do things. She had me moving. She was working on flexibility or she was working on, you know, whatever little strengths and whatever little mountain I could climb that day. And I think from an emotional standpoint, that was really helpful for me. I’m sure I healed quicker because I felt better about things and I didn’t feel like I was going backwards while I was healing. So I think that was really particularly unique.
What would you say to others?
Bring your A-game, you know, they’re going to hold you accountable. They’re going to show up. They’re going to be cheerful, so you might as well be too. And they’re going to work you as hard as you want to be worked. I like the consistency of it. And I like the fact they come to the house. I don’t have the drive time. It doesn’t interfere with my schedule. It’s part of my schedule. So that works for me.
