Tell us about yourself…

Angela:My name is Angela, I’m in Murphy, Texas and I’m a landscape designer.

Why seek a trainer and dietician?

Well, really it was that I was not feeling well.  I didn’t have any energy and like most women my age I had gotten a little thick around the middle and wanted to change that so, I guess, the biggest driver was that I just wanted to feel better.

What did you find out there?

I had been to a couple of doctors and I would ask about, you know, what could I do to have more energy and what was going on and they pushed a lot of supplements to me and I did not like that at all because I’ve always felt like you can get most of what you need through good nutrition.  I didn’t know a whole lot about nutrition but I knew that much and I just didn’t like the idea of taking a pill for everything.

Why not just do a diet?

You know, I kind of looked into some of the “diet centers” and I didn’t like the idea of having to eat special food or buying special supplements or being on a diet per se because, like I say, I wanted something that I could do for the rest of my life and I didn’t want to go through a lot of hard work to lose some pounds and then just turn around and put it back on in six months or a year; just – that doesn’t make sense to me.

Why did you decide on us?

You know, I also knew that I needed more exercise and so when a friend of mine had participated in your program and got great results and I was asking him questions and I learned that it’s sort of a combination of nutrition and exercise and something that’s sustainable.  It’s a lifestyle change, it’s not just a temporary fad diet that you do for, you know, a few months and then you go back to your old ways to put the weight on again.

That’s never appealed to me so the fact that it was something that you could do forever really appealed to me and that’s when I checked into it.

What did you like most?

Yeah, I enjoy the educational aspect of it.  I learn a lot about nutrition.  (Kelsey) is so knowledgeable and so willing to share and really in the first two or three weeks, as you know, I figured out how much I didn’t know and so that was kind of an eye opener for me.

How was the training?

(Bob) was my trainer and he was just very supportive and every session was a challenge but it wasn’t so difficult that I couldn’t do it.  I felt good after every session.

What changed for you?

I did feel more motivated.  I kind of looked forward to exercising for a change instead of thinking, oh, you know, what else can I do?  And so almost immediately I felt stronger and I like that and then I started losing inches.

What was the problem before?

I wasn’t really overweight.  I had just gotten lazy and had gotten a little heavier than I wanted to be so when the inches came off around my waist I was very happy about that.

Do you have a new perspective?

So I really think – I think of my body differently and I think of food differently.  Now it’s like a fuel for my body and I know that if I give it what it needs I’m going to feel better and look better and if I go back to the old ways of just what’s easy or what sounds good then I’m going to end up where I was before.

And I also think that we’re under this misconception that because something’s in the grocery store it’s decent, it’s eatable but that’s not the case.  I mean, grocery stores are just in business to make a profit and I’ve become a compulsive label reader.

Any thoughts for others?

We do a lot of things for ourselves and if you’re worth it, if you think that you’re worth it it’s worth the money, it’s wroth the time, it’s worth putting your food in the food diary everyday because you will see results, you’ll feel better and you’ll look better and you’ll be healthier, fewer trips to the doctor and so it’s worth it!
