Frequently Asked Questions:

How will I know if Joint Maintenance Formula is helping me?
Research indicates that it takes about two months to begin feeling improvement in osteoarthritis symptoms such as pain, inflammation and joint mobility.

Will Joint Maintenance Formula help with rheumatoid arthritis?
At this time there is no research to show that glucosamine and chondroitin have any effect on autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

Is Joint Maintenance Formula safe to take if a woman is pregnant or nursing?
At this time, we do not encourage the use of glucosamine and chondroitin for women who are pregnant or nursing.

What is glucosamine?
Glucosamine is an amino sugar that is the fundamental building block of the molecules that attract and hold water in cartilage. Amino sugars are the basis of virtually all connective tissues and lubricating fluids in the body. Although the body makes glucosamine, injuries and aging may result in a deficiency. Supplemental glucosamine has been shown to be a successful treatment of osteoarthritis by effectively controlling pain and halting or reversing the progression of the disease. Several studies have shown that in addition to stimulating the production of cartilage, glucosamine helps reduce pain and improve joint function in people who have osteoarthritis.

What is glucosamine derived from?
Glucosamine HCI is derived from the shells of crab, shrimp, lobster, and other shellfish. For this reason, if you are allergic to shellfish you should not take Joint Maintenance Formula.

What is chondroitin?
Chondroitin sulfate helps promote water retention in the cartilage, which is essential for shock absorption. It has been reported to maintain joint viscosity, stimulate the mechanisms for cartilage repair, and inhibit enzymes that break down cartilage. In the early stages of joint disease there are changes in chondroitin that affect the response of the chondrocytes (cells that form cartilage) to damage in the cartilage that surrounds the joints. When taken orally, chondroitin provides the necessary compounds for the formation of healthy tissue that otherwise may not be available due to the joint disease.

What is bromelain?
Bromelain is an extract from the pineapple stem that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant properties.
